USB20 1GBe Configurator
A Practical Tool for Smoother USB Extension
AV integrators working with Lightware’s Icron-based USB extension products have a new tool to simplify their workflow. The recently released USB20 1GBe Configurator is a free Windows-based utility that speeds up the configuration process and improves system visibility, without adding unnecessary complexity. Designed specifically for Lightware devices with USB 2.0 over Ethernet capability, the software auto-detects compatible units on the network and provides a clean, functional UI. Techs can assign device roles (LEX, REX or BiDi), configure network settings, and choose from USB operating modes like configure virtual network hub mode, all in just a few clicks. One standout feature is the graphical topology view, which visually maps out how USB devices and hubs are interconnected. This not only makes device pairing easier but also helps quickly identify USB tier limits or connectivity issues.
What makes this tool especially useful is its visual crosspoint interface, which simplifies the process of device pairing and layout management. You no longer need to juggle between spreadsheets or rely on external documentation to understand the connection topology. It’s right there in front of you.
For those handling larger rollouts or managing repeated deployments, USB20 1GBe Configurator allows export/import of full configurations via editable JSON files. This not only speeds up repetitive setups but also makes rollback and system recovery far more predictable.
Third-party integration is fully supported. The built-in REST API provides direct access to crosspoint control and device status monitoring, allowing the software to fit seamlessly into broader AV-over-IP ecosystems, particularly valuable when deploying USB alongside HDMI or DisplayPort matrices in complex environments.
The software is available now from Lightware’s official website.
